My Resources

Filed under: Reference List — by jacquiehayes @ 3:08 am

I have been looking through my own del.icio.us  bookmarks that I have tagged for later use to help me with my plan. I have also looked at others on the DFLP07  and have picked out that I have found quite valuable to this course.

All these have confirmed a lot of what we do at our community Learning Centres, we facilitate, but we also get to know our students and find out their learning styles whether they be visual, audiable, reflective etc.  From when they first arrive to enrol we get their details, what it is they are wanting out of the course (the outcome)  The students learning ability , the resources and equipment we use.  How long the course takes (how many recommended hours ) also their time line.  We use Performance Criterias as a check list for our students to complete as they work through their books. We have evaluations forms that each student completes after every assessment.

Dave M Post

Filed under: Teaching Resource — by jacquiehayes @ 12:09 am

I have been reading Dave M thoughts about how not all students have the ability to use a computer or how to get around a certain programme on a computer, i.e. blackboard, so that I feel is where we come into the play at our Community Learning Centres, where we can facilitate and show these students how to access their learning programmes.

If for an example there are students who live at the back of Outram, and they are enrolled in a programme in massage therapy on line, they could come into our suite and we could teach them how to log on and help them if they are unsure of a question.  I realise that we would need to be trained up on the content of the programme, and a lot more investigating needs to go into it, but I do feel that we should be taking the programmes to the students, who are remote, and do not have access to coming into the Polytechnic for classes.

Videos to stir us up

Filed under: Teaching Resource — by jacquiehayes @ 11:20 pm

I watched these videos and they were ok. I thought they made the point about how fast technology is changing and how much easier we can make our lives and work with tchnology.  I quite enjoyed it.

Change of Plan

Filed under: Development of Learning Plan — by jacquiehayes @ 10:18 pm

well what do they say “It’s a women prerogative to change her mind”

Well I am and my new plan is to be able to teach Microsoft Office 2007 to our students at the Community  Learning  Centres.  At the moment we are teaching 2002/2003 and we need to be up to date with  technology.  We have students who are now buying Vista and 2007  which is on their computers and asking us to help them with this programme.

We need to be able to teach this to them and to have the resources available to help them, which at present we do not.  I am at present working with a fellow colleague through this problem, and have decided to use the plan I am working on for my DFLP course.

Interview of Student

Filed under: Teaching Resource — by jacquiehayes @ 4:43 am

I have brought myself a quick cam and have loaded the software and hooked the cam up to my computer and am at present trying it out.  I have managed to put my photo onto skype and I also rang another supervisor at one of our other venues and talked him through downloading skype and we now talk and he can now see me while I am talking to him.  He thinks I am so clever with this technology, If he only knew how hit and miss it has been for me learning this and just giving it a go and trying new things.  Its been great to actually show others how skype works and enjoy there enthusiasim when they see you on the other end of who they are talking to. I have now just talked to one of my students and asked if she would be my “guinea pig” and did she mind me putting her on utube she was very obliging so I sat her down at my desk, set the cam corder up and then I hooked both the micro phones up to the computer, and asked her the questions that Bronwyn had advised us on and away we went.

You can tell by the video that it is very amateurish and raw but it is the first time i had done it and felt very uneasy but also proud of myself as once again i was taken out of my comfort zone and I once again have tried something new.

I have come a long way from when I first started and I now know that it wasnt as hard as I had thought.

I am down loading  it to u Tube and am waiting, and waiting and waiting, (it takes so long)  and then i will put it on my blog.

Plan

Here is my draft plan for my DFLP assignment.

I am feeling quite scared about this at the moment, as I am doubting myself as how this plan is going to be actioned.  I am hoping to use cam studio to present and make this plan, but i feel I will need a lot of help from my facilitators to get fruiticion of this plan.

Project Title and Department:  Teaching Sales Techniques to Community Learning Centre Staff in Dunedin Area

Project Leader:   Jacquie Hayes

EDC Project Leader:  Leigh Blackall

Project Goals

Background Project:

This project is to be  undertaken because I feel there is a need at our Community Learning Centre to be provided with Sales Training to Staff.  Part of our job description is selling our National Certificate in Computing Level2 and 3 and also Business Admin and Computing level 2 to our students.  Also through the vision of Otago Polytechnic that CLC may be delivering Service Centre for O.P. school programmes. so customer service and knowledge on how to sell ourselves as well as our product is essential.

To orgainise this plan i am going to look on u tube to see if there are any customer service videos already there to give me some idea.  I also have been talking and working with Janice Henderson in our OP customer services for advice on her work.  Also I will be looking at NQF units to match up some qualifications with this.  I am also looking at making up some quizzes and exercises as well.

Some of the plan will be presented on line, but will also need to be face to face as well.

I have been reading a fair bit of literature on designing courses and there are just so many things to be considered

a)  Course Content is designed to have easy accessibility to the staff, i.e. handouts, using blackboard, vidoe, audio.

b)  Different learning styles of each staff member, i.e. kinesthetic, Interpersonal, intrapersonal, visual, Logically minded learners.

c)   Identify delivery method, write and develope the course, sourcing correct resources etc.

d)  find out about copy right permission from resources I have obtained

e)  Is the course content culturely sensitive to all parties

f)  Is the technology compatible to different venues.

There are just so much more that I am working on in this plan , so will analyse this plan at a later date.
