“Planning the Plan”

Filed under: wiki — by jacquiehayes @ 10:21 am

Now I am at a stage of actually putting my course together and I am going to show the rest of my Constructing To Enhance Learning collegues the process of how I am going to do it.

I am putting my thoughts down step by steps on how I am going to do this:

  • Who are my Learners?
  • I am going to take a photo of my students in the Mosgiel Comunity Learning Centre Venue and a photo of the Mosgiel Venue from the street, which I will upload from my computer and save on my USB which i will use later.
  • I will also make a link to Otago Polytechnic Web page for the above as well.
  • Reference will be linked from my Del iou is
  • I will open up Excel 2007 on Computer and have a blank page ready to record
  • I  will use “camstudio” to do a screencast of a few examples I will use in my course http://screencasting.blogspot.com/
  • Above is a link i have used before that Leigh has put on his blog to show us how to do this.
  • I will then open up Wiki and show how I added my ideas on learning styles and what would be best for this course and if it suited my learners.
  • I will show how I made my Webpage using google pages.
  • I will demonstrate how I used “Snagit” to capture my tools that I will use in my Handouts and examples.
  • I will demonstrate how I made my Timeline in “Visio” and then pasted to my Webpage.
  • I will show how I add links to my webpage and how to make a Home button.
  • Then explain how I put this altogether on a slideshow on Utube, so they can view it and evaluate for me.

Adult Learning

Filed under: Constructing Course, Weblog, wiki — by jacquiehayes @ 9:46 am

This is a follow on from my previous blog.

While continuing with my readings I came across Malcolm Knowles (1978, 1990)

this i found great to read, as he is the one who brought the concept of adult education to us today. He taught that adult learning was special in a number of ways. for example:

Adult learners bring a lot of experience to their learning environment in which educators can use as a resource.

Adult expect to have a high degree of infuence on what they are to be educated for

Adults need to be able to see applications for new learning

Adult learners expect to have a high degree of infuence on how learning will be evaluated.

Adults expect their responses to be acted upon when asked for feedback on a course

Burns (1995) is quoted as saying

By adulthood people are self-directing. This is the concept that lies at the heart of andragogy, this is therefor student-centred, experienced based, problem soving and collabrorative very much in the spitit of the humanist approach to learning and education, the whole educational activity turns on the student.

So with all these thoughts my next blog will be about what are the learning outcomes for my course i am going to construct.
