My Response on Blackboard to Bronwyn

Filed under: Evaluation — by jacquiehayes @ 9:15 am

My responses to Bronwyns questions about Evaluating are:

How will you evaluated the success of your new course design?

I believe that the best way of evaluating my course would be a variety of ways.

  • From the content and design
  • Classroom / Observation
  • Students understanding instructions
  • Is the level of the course to the students ability
  • Will the student retain the information taught in the class and use it for future use.
  • Moderation from Peers, collegues
  • Evaluation feedback from students, through the course and afterward
  • Popularity of course/number of students enrolled.

Who will you ask to review your design befor it goes live?

South Dunedin CLC and Mosgiel CLC will run the course as a pilot and then the course will be moderated by Emma Hogg, at Forth St. The feedback from the above venues will go to the moderator, and also the course will be discussed at a supervisors Venue meeting to go over any questions and answers, needed for the course.

How will you monitor its success as you use it, and at the end of the first offering?

This course will be monitored by way of the outcomes.  I will monitor the progress of the learners and make suer they are on the right track, and understand instructions.  I will check the progress of the learner and this will will show me if the outcome is achievable to that student, and that they know the subject and will use in their workplace, or home circumstances. I will test thier ability of knowledge through quizzes and exercises.

At the end of the first offering they will get a certificate to show competency.

Evaluation form will be collected from student/ discussion of the course content with student

discussion with CLC staff at staff meetings once a month/ Otago Polytechnic Stakeholders

What criteria will you use to judge its success?

Are the learning outcomes achieved and are they able to take their learning to a higher level. e.g. Level 2 and Level 3 computing Excel.

How will you gather your data?

From students evaluation forms, rating of the course, detailed questionair, written aprrisial, observation, discussions with students.  Evaluation from peers and colleuges of CLC venues, self evaluation.

What will you do with the information obtained?

On our computers we put all our evaluation remarks in our data base and then we run reports and querries this supplies stakeholders of OP and gives us a chance to re-evaluate the course if needed.

Who are the Community Learning Centres

Community Learning Centre

here is a small presentation on who are the CLC’s  This may take a minute or so to down load but it does work.

This presentation was a mix of the four different CLC Venues in the Dunedin Area and we each took photo’s and then they were put together on a powerpoint display.

We also have Venues in the Central Otago Area, I will leave it up to the Central team to put their venues on their blogs.  Now there’s a challenge Central CLC’s.

All the CLC’s run the same and we are all a great team, and know that our students and their learning is what is most important to us:)

Our Evaluation forms

Terry suggested  I  could show evidence of how we evaluate our courses

I have just scanned one of our evaluation forms and a copy of what some of our students have commented on from the survey. I have used white out,to  hide students names for security reasons.

Evaluation

Filed under: Constructing Course,Evaluation — by jacquiehayes @ 8:49 am

My evaluation of this course reverts right back to when i first decided to plan it in my DFLP course.  If i go back  and have a look at the whole process from where I started my plan to where I am completing this plan and it actually coming to fruitition and being taught to my students I can then truly Evaluate it.

Starting from the Students, to the Stakeholders, to the students learning styles, to the aims and outcomes, implementation plan, or the resources used. All these things have to be evaluated in a course.

Formative (which is conducted during the teaching instructions of the course to improve  it in any way)

Summative ( which is  conducted at the end of teaching instructions to determine how well the processing of the information  was taught and retained)

Evaluation is necessary for facilitators to keep the quality of the course and material at it highest standards and to keep improving it if needed.  All facilitators should evaluate the course and make sure it fits the stakeholders goal.  They should also evaluate the level of the course and the students who are taking the course, and if they are learning from the course, and asking what will the students take away from this course and will they retain it, to use in their own circumstances, whether it be at home, work, play,or school.

To get this evaluation you can get it from:

  • Teaching/Facilitator staff or collegues
  • In the Classroom/observation
  • Students completing assessments/quizzes/tests
  • By Moderation from internal and external stakeholders
  • By self evaluation /by reflection

I will put my evaluation questions and answers for Bronwyn on blackboard.
